It's Moving Day!
Should I do it myself or hire a mover?

If you buy or sell through Omni Real Estate you will get free use of our moving truck. Ask me for details.

If you are moving locally it is usually cheaper to do it yourself than to hire a moving company. If you are moving out of state or cross country it may not be cheaper to do it yourself. If you are moving cross country or out of state and are thinking of doing it yourself here are some things to consider.

When getting a price on a rental truck you have to remember there are some extra costs to factor in. There is the price quote just to rent the truck, the damage waiver protection in case of an accident, sales tax, rental items such as furniture pads, dolly, and the cost of fuel and mileage.

Then the mileage that rental trucks get are not usually very good. If it is a gasoline fueled truck you may get 5 to 8 miles to the gallon, if it is diesel powered truck you may get 10 to 12 miles to the gallon. A lot of these trucks will not go much over 55 miles per hour and they go very slow up hill.

Then are you going to be towing a car? Then what if everything does not fit into the truck? And then do you know how to move your belongings so they do not get damaged? And don’t forget the wear and tear on your back!

Hopefully this will give you some ideas to consider when deciding to move yourself or hire a moving company.

If you are going to do it yourself please continue on to the next page for more tips.
